Spirit of the Gift Ceremony & Workshop

Spirit of the Gift Ceremony & Workshop

Our Saturday workshop this week will be focused on embracing a path of self-inquire and working in the spirit of the gift.

Saturday, December 13th from 12:30pm until 8:00pm

"The purpose of life is to discover your gifts; the meaning of life is to give them away" - African Proverb

The Spirit of The Gift is the vital force of exchange that sustains us materially, socially and spiritually in the new paradigm. It supports flow and not accumulation, creating and not owning, giving and not having.

It is the X-factor in creating what Charles Eisenstein, author of Sacred Economics, calls the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.

Drawing upon indigenous wisdom, music, poetry, mythic storytelling and cutting-edge scholarship, this ceremony and workshop will give an embodied experience of the Spirit of the Gift – opening creative possibilities into how it can be translated into our daily lives.

Why is it important?

"In a gentle way, you can shake the world" - Mahatma Gandhi

In our modern culture, The Spirit of The Gift may be the least understood yet most important subject of the new paradigm; it can transform our relationship to money, liberating the vast store of wealth in the form of our human gifts to spiral our world into a higher possibility.

It boldly challenges our beliefs as we face our complex global crisis, asking us to remember that the things we cannot measure may be what ultimately enrich and sustain our lives.

It is catalysing an economic transition that accompanies humanities rite of passage as we learn to take responsibility for living in harmony with the earth according to natural principles.

It is part of a shift in identity that is ending the story of separation, creating a New Story of the People and developing systems that support it.

It is the gentlest way to shake the world.

How do you learn it?

The Spirit of The Gift is something anyone can understand – how to engage it, how to communicate it, how to live it.

Believe it or not, it all starts by learning how to let-go and relearn the simple acts of giving and receiving... revitalizing our relationships to transform ourselves, our families, our communities and our world from the grassroots.

It is a call to simplicity that is radical and yet obvious.

To support this, we must:

1) Understand that nature of our own gifts and why we should bring them in service to the whole

2) Grasp the mechanics of the gift and what would an economy founded upon the principles of the gift actually look like

3) Learn how The Spirit of The Gift related to the evolution of consciousness and rooted in our new discoveries in physics and biology

We also need to know how stories are created and how they can be changed, as well as cultural practices to support the new story.

Come and discover the essential principles of The Gift, and see in action how it can be one of the most effective agents for spiritual, cultural, environmental and political transformation.

What is The Gift ceremony and workshop?

We will conduct a gift ceremony to open an experiential window into the invisible movements of The Gift. Working with symbolic realms, this ceremony will open the gateway to world behind the world. After, you will learn how to conduct a gift circle on a basic level, and leave with the confidence to bring this practice to your own family and community.

In the workshop we will see how the gift ceremony is a microcosm of our lives and a demonstration of the transformative power of The Spirit of The Gift.

Other topics covered:

1) Drawing on the great scholarly works of Charles Eisenstein, Lewis Hyde and Joseph Campbell we will:

- Understand how sacred economics is the way of the future, and the evidence showing it is already underway

- Remember why many indigenous cultures practiced giving as a way of life before the money economy, and how we can integrate their practices into our life today

- Unveil the role of stories and myth in creating culture, and what it will require to develop and live a new story

2) Drawing on mystical poetry & spiritual teachings, you will see:

- How The Gift is actually one of the most ancient concepts taught by the great mystics

- How a culture of The Gift was the aim of almost all the great spiritual masters of our time
